Solar Panel Calculator
Enter your address to start. The calculator designs a solar system for your home and estimates what it would cost.
How the solar panel calculator works
Enter your home’s address and a few details about your electricity use. The calculator, powered by our design partner OpenSolar, uses them to size a system for your home and estimate its cost.
It’s an estimate, not a quote. Your final price depends on your roof, shading, electrical panel and the equipment you choose. For an exact price, get a free quote.
Rebates aren’t included in the estimate. See current solar rebates by province, and use the solar battery calculator if you’re adding storage.
Typical solar system sizes and costs
Installed pricing runs roughly $2.30 to $4.10 per watt before tax. Smaller 5 kW systems sit near the top of that range; larger 15 kW systems come down to $2.60/watt, or $2.34 with Growatt.
Over a 25-year panel lifetime, that works out to roughly 9–15¢ per kWh produced before rebates (typical Ontario sun), at or below what most Canadians pay all-in for grid power. Rebates and larger systems push it lower.
Solar calculator questions
How accurate is the solar panel calculator?
It’s a starting estimate from your address and usage.
The final design and price come after we review your roof, shading, electrical panel and equipment.
What size solar system do I need?
Divide your yearly electricity use (kWh) by what a kilowatt of panels produces where you live.
That’s roughly 930 to 1,380 kWh per kW per year across the cities we serve.
For example, 9,000 kWh ÷ 1,150 ≈ 8 kW.
Does the estimate include rebates?
No, prices are before rebates. See rebates by province.
What happens to my information?
It’s used to prepare your estimate and follow up about your solar project, and is processed by our design partner OpenSolar. See our privacy policy.
Can I add a battery?
Yes. Estimate storage savings with the solar battery calculator.
